When I hear the word Arizona, I think of the desert. There is not much to do out here in Arizona , other then having fun and going out to the mall.

Hi, Desiree.
Although Phoenix and much of the southern part of the state are desert, other parts of the state are different. What about Flagstaff? What about the White Mountains?
Of course, I'm referring to climate and geography, not things to do.
Dennis
I really don't know anything about Arizona, so forgive me if I say some foolishness but, Arizona brings to me a image of the old western movies (because of desert parts), and also images of climbing zones (because of the mountains).
Olá, Emerson.
It's really good to hear from you!
What you said isn't foolishness: many, many people have the same ideas. There's actually a lot of variety in the state, however—in terms of geography, climate, plants, and much more.

Every time I think of Arizona, Dennis is what comes to my mind! He is a dear partner that I hope to meet some time soon...
Besides that I´d say that I picture lots of nature, contrasts in terms of colors, shades of green, flowers in all tones, the intense red of the grand canyon and its imposing beauty...This is Arizona to me.
Beijos,
Carla
Oh, I forgot to mention something that is very vivid to me about Arizona, its people. I picture all kinds of people coming from everywhere, friendly and smiley!
Maybe I´m influenced by what I´ve experienced online...
Beijos,
Carla

I feel the same way about you, Carla. I also hope we can meet sometime soon—and since Rodrigo wants to visit the Grand Canyon, it seems likely that we'll be able to get together.

Before we began this blog, my immediate first impressions of Brasil were of the Amazon rain forest and of Carnaval in Rio. Now, I think of a huge country with a great deal of variety of every kind—of people, of cultures, of topography, and so on and so on. My thanks to you, Carla, and also to your students for "opening my mind"!
Beijos e abraços,
Dennis

My question was actually not a very good one because different parts of Arizona have quite different altitudes. As a result, there are several distinct climate zones, and southern Arizona, for example, can be quite hot during the summer, but the climate in other parts of the state can be quite different. For an overview of Arizona weather, see THIS LINK. In particular, see the section called Climate at the bottom of the page—and note that the temperatures are in Fahrenheit, not Celsius.
Phoenix is considered subtropical desert, so the temperature range here is quite different from the temperature range in, for example, Flagstaff. See the following links:
Phoenix Weather (temperatures in Fahrenheit)
Flagstaff Weather (temperatures in Fahrenheit)
Sunset Magazine's Climate Zone Map for Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado (see the descriptions of zones 1, 2, 10, 12, and 13)

Dennis
